Pools and Flowers. 2009-2010. oil on canvas, oil on linen. Click on thumbnail for larger image.
In 2008, I discovered a bamboo tree growing in the abandoned pool at the house I grew up in. A couple of years later, the image of the abandoned pool became the touchstone for a body of work about loss, transition, nostalgia, memory, and perseverance. During this same time, I thought maybe I should paint flowers to cheer myself up.
