Restless Things That Move From Surface to Surface, Some of Which Occasionally Need Water and Others That Will Always Survive


Until recently, I had never used the word ‘peripatetic’ in a sentence and I didn’t think of myself as nomadic or even restless, but in 2020, at the height of the pandemic and amidst the turmoil of social injustice, I took stock of my need to leave the California desert and return home. At mid-life, I am coming to terms with emotional and physical displacement prompted by a lifetime of conflicting images I carry of my native South and exacerbated by degrees of loss and reexamination. The images in this body of work document my time spent in the desert and the ensuing trips I've made along the the way in search for a home.
